SYMPTOMS

When you boot your Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based or Microsoft Windows 98-based computer from the Windows 2000 CD-ROM or floppy disks to run Windows 2000 Setup, you receive the following message:

You chose to install Windows 2000 on a partition that contains another operating system. Installing Windows 2000 on this partition might cause the operating system to function improperly.

This message indicates that Setup did not recognize the operating system you are attempting to upgrade. If you choose to continue, a new installation of Windows 2000 is installed, instead of an upgrade to your current operating system on the selected partition. Installing Windows 2000 on this partition might cause the other operating system to function improperly.
