SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows 2000 on your Compaq Presario-based computer, the keyboard controls for sound, CD-ROM, and instant Internet access do not function.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Compaq uses a custom keyboard and keyboard driver software to provide enhanced functionality with Compaq Presario keyboards. Because Windows 2000 does not natively support this enhanced functionality, Setup detects the keyboard as a standard keyboard and installs a standard keyboard driver.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact Compaq to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

APPLIES TO
