After you upgrade your computer from Microsoft Windows 98 to Windows NT 2000, sound events do not function properly or you may receive the following error message when you configure events in the Sounds And Multimedia tool:
Windows cannot find the file C:\Windows\Media\soundfile.wav. Do you want to continue to use this sound event anyway?
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the sound files located in the <drive>:\Windows\Media folder have moved to the SystemRoot\System32 folder and the registry entries related to sound event files are not updated to use the new path.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows 2000.
