Display Problems with Refresh Rate Above 90 Hz on Compaq Presario 4880

SYMPTOMS

When you set the refresh rate to 90 hertz (Hz) or higher for the onboard ATI Rage Pro AGP video adapter on a Compaq Presario 4880, the display may be garbled or unintelligible, or may appear brown. You are given the option to cancel the new setting before it is applied.

CAUSE

The onboard video adapter in this computer is not capable of a refresh rate of 90 Hz or higher, even though refresh rates of up to 120 Hz are listed.

RESOLUTION

Set the refresh rate below 90 Hz.
