XADM: Exchange 2000 Setup Fails When You Attempt to Join an Existing Exchange Server 5.5 Site

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Beta 2 to join an existing Exchange Server 5.5 site that has a large number of servers or sites, Setup stops responding with the following error message:

Error Message: IDispatch not found for [microsoft exchange conferencing mmc snapin]

Component: Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration.

The log files have the following information

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, before you install Exchange 2000, on the Exchange Server 5.5 computer that is used to join the site:

Run the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program.
Click to expand Organization, click to expand Site, click to expand Configuration, and then click to expand Protocols.
Double-click LDAP Protocol to open the properties.
Click the Search tab.
Modify the value for the Maximum number of search results returned option to a value that is equal to or greater than the number of servers in the organization. Also, if the LDAP protocol object at the server level is NOT set to use the site defaults, you need to change the value at the server level.
