A Windows 98 Second Edition-based computer that implements the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) specification may stop responding (hang) if the following sequence of events occurs:
CAUSE
Since Internet Connection Sharing cannot function while the computer is suspended, the computer cannot be suspended whenever Internet Connection Sharing is enabled. This behavior is by design. The hang which occurs during shutdown is a result of the failed attempt to suspend the computer while Internet Connection Sharing is enabled. RESOLUTIONA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix.
