After you upgrade a Compaq Presario model computer to Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition, an error message on a blue screen may be displayed when you shut down or restart Windows.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when you upgrade a Compaq Presario model that uses an FX500 or FX700 monitor and an incompatible monitor driver is installed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, obtain updated drivers from the following Compaq Web site:
