After an administrator publishes the Winnt32.msi file using group policies, you may receive the following error message when you use the Add/Remove Programs tool to upgrade your computer to Windows 2000:
Windows 2000 Setup The file \\server name\share name\WINNT32U.DLL could not be loaded or is corrupt. Setup cannot continue. CAUSE
This issue can occur if the Domain Computers group does not have the appropriate permissions to the share that contains the setup files. The Winnt32.msi file causes Msiexec.exe to start the Winnt32.exe tool in the Local System context, however, the ability to obtain access is denied because the local computer does not have the appropriate permissions.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, use either of the following methods:
