How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
- Locate your valid product CD Key, which is located on the
back of the original CD case.
If the product CD Key begins with
GC6J3, the Product Key is not valid in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
Contact the reseller of your Office product to obtain a valid product CD key,
or purchase a valid Microsoft Office 2000 product. After you obtain a valid
product CD key, continue with the following steps.
For more
information about purchasing Microsoft Office, visit the following Microsoft
Web site: - Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and select the following key. If the key is present,
follow steps a through d. If the key is not present, follow steps e through h.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<
GUID>
where GUID is the Product
Code for the version of Office that is installed; for example,
{00000409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}. More than one GUID may be listed under
the Uninstall subkey. If you see more than one, select each GUID until you find
the one that has the correct product name listed for the DisplayName value; for
example, " Microsoft Office 2000 Premium".
- For the selected GUID
subkey, select the ProductID string value in the right pane.
- On the Edit menu, click Rename.
- Type OldProductID and then press
ENTER.
- Go to step 5.
- NOTE: Follow these steps e through h ONLY if you did not find the key
listed at the beginning of step 4.
Locate and select the following
key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/Current
Version/Installer/Userdata/S-1-5-18/Products/< GUID>/InstallProperties
where GUID is the product code for
the version of Office that is installed; for example,
{904000001E872D116BF00006799C897E}, and where the text S-1-5-18 may change
depending on the method used to install Office. More than one GUID may be
listed under the Uninstall subkey. If you see more than one, select each GUID
and look in the InstallProperties folder until you find the one that has the
correct product name listed for the DisplayName value; for example, "Office
2000 Premium." - For the selected GUID
subkey, select the ProductID string value in the right pane.
- On the Edit menu, click Rename.
- Type OldProductID and then press
ENTER.
- On the Registry menu, click Exit.
- Start any Office program.
- When the Microsoft Office 2000 User Information dialog box appears, type your valid product CD Key (located on
the back of the CD case). Follow the instructions on your screen.
