SUMMARY

It is possible to perform a new installation of Windows 2000 by using the Windows 2000 Upgrade version CD-ROM.

During a new installation of Windows 2000 with the Upgrade version CD-ROM, Setup prompts you for the installation CD-ROM from an earlier supported version of Windows to confirm that you are qualified to use the Upgrade product. If you are installing Windows 2000 Professional, Setup prompts you for one of the following product CD-ROMs:

Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 3.51
Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0
Microsoft Windows 95
Microsoft Windows 98
Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition

If you are installing Windows 2000 Server, Setup prompts you for one of the following product CD-ROMs:

Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.51
Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0
Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition
Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Enterprise Edition

NOTE: Most OEM Windows 9x CDs cannot be used as qualifying media. It must be a retail copy.
