Laptop May Not Suspend When It Is Running on Battery Power

SYMPTOMS

Your laptop may not automatically suspend when it is running on battery power.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you start the laptop while you are using AC power, and then you unplug the laptop and the battery icon is not displayed on the taskbar.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the following steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Power Options.
  2. On the Advanced tab, click to select the Always show icon on the taskbar check box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows Millennium Edition.
