HOW TO: Force Printers to Spool Raw Data Type Files in Windows 2000

This article describes how to print raw data type files in Windows 2000.

In Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, you can force client computers to print raw data type files by selecting the Always spool raw data type check box on the General tab in the printer's Properties page. In Windows 2000, this option does not exist.

Forcing Clients to Print Raw Data Type Files in Windows 2000

NOTE: Some legacy applications have the need to "Always spool raw data type" and may experience graphics print out without any text associated.

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
2. Right-click the printer that you want to use and click Properties.
3. On the Advanced tab, click Print Processor.
4. Click Raw in the Default data type box.
5. Click OK to confirm changes.
6. On the Advanced tab, clear the Enable advanced printing features option.
7. Click OK to confirm changes.

TrueType Fonts

Note that for some printers the print jobs still use TrueType fonts. To prevent these fonts from being sent in the job (which results in smaller print jobs), follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
2. Right-click the printer that you want to use and click Properties.
3. On the General tab, click Printing Preferences.
4. Click the Advanced button on the Layout tab.
5. If the TrueType Font option is selected, click Substitute with Device Font. If this option is not listed, click OK.
