SUMMARY

When you install Windows Media Player 7, problems with the installation are logged by Setup_wm.exe in the Wmsetup.log file. This file is created after the installation files for Windows Media Player are unpacked to the Windows\Temp\Ixp00~.tmp folder. Note that the Wmp7.exe package contains the installation files for Windows Media Player.

The Wmsetup.log file is updated when Setup_wm.exe encounters an error during the installation. By default, this file is updated only if a major error is encountered, such as a file extraction failure or a copy file operation that cannot complete.

The Wmsetup.log file is located in the Windows folder. When no errors are encountered, the Wmsetup.log file contains the following default entry:
An INF requested a reboot via the SmartReboot section.
