Fatal Exception Error Message Occurs During Setup

SYMPTOMS

You may receive the following error message during Windows Millennium Edition (Me) Setup:

A fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C02B9568 in VXD IFSMGR(04) + 00012AEC. The current application will be terminated.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are running the Sysinternal Filemon.exe program during Setup.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, do not run Filemon.exe or any other program during the setup process. To disable third-party device drivers, utilities, or other programs that may prevent a successful installation, perform a clean boot troubleshooting procedure.
