Flash Firmware On Itanium-Based Systems

To flash the firmware on Itanium-based systems, use either of the following methods:

Method 1 (Recommended)

1. Mount your Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) partition following the steps from the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
2. Copy the files that are going to flash your firmware to the newly mounted EFI partition. There is typically a binary input file and a Iflash64.efi file.
3. Restart your system and access the EFI shell.
4. When you are in the EFI shell, verify that you are in the folder where the files you copied are located.
5. Type iflash64 file name, press ENTER, and then follow the instructions on the screen. File Name is the binary file that you copied to the EFI partition.
6. Restart the system after the update has finished.

Method 2

1. Instead of mounting the EFI partition, you can copy the files to an LS120 formatted disk.
2. Restart your system and access the EFI shell. When you restart, ensure that you have the LS120 floppy disk in the floppy disk drive. If not, you cannot access the drive when you are in the EFI shell.
3. When you are in the EFI shell, verify that you are in the folder where the files you copied are located.
4. Type iflash64 file name, press ENTER, and then follow the instructions on the screen. File Name is the binary file that you copied to the EFI partition.
5. Restart the system after the update has finished.

Troubleshooting

• Do not turn off the system while you update the firmware as you may not be able to get back into the system.
• The Iflash64 file programs the flash from address 0xFFD00000.
• The Iflash64 file only programs and erases the amount of flash required for the update. This is determined by the size of the binary file.
• Additional information can be obtained from the iflash64 /h utility help command.
