Windows Me Hangs on Shutdown with Alcatel USB ADSL Modem

SYMPTOMS

When you shut down your computer that is running Windows Millennium Edition (Me), your computer may stop responding (hang). When you start your computer, you may receive the following error message:
An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:F000F841 in VxD ---
This was called from 0028:C001D188 in VxD ndis (01) +0005AA0

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are using an Alcatel Speed Touch USB ADSL modem in your computer, and you are using drivers that are designed for use with Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, obtain and install the Windows Me driver for the Speed Touch modem that is available from the following Alcatel Web site:
