SYMPTOMS

You may find that you cannot print to a local network printer from a Windows 2000 Server-based computer running Terminal Services. This happens when the client and server are in separate, unconnected domains.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because Windows 2000 Terminal Services supports the autocreation only of local printers, not of local network printers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, install Citrix Metaframe 1.8 on the Windows 2000-based server running Terminal Services.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Citrix Metaframe 1.8 supports autocreation of local network printers. When you print, the print job is sent to the local system through the ICA protocol; it is then sent to the network printer from the client workstation.
