SYMPTOMS

When you try to access the Windows Update Web site through Internet Explorer, you may receive the following error messages:

You are not authorized to view this page. You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied. If you believe you should be able to view this page please contact the web site using email address or phone number that may be listed on the update page.
HTTP Error 403 Forbidden Internet Explorer

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, delete the temporary Internet files. Follow these steps:
  1. In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click Delete Files, and then click OK.
  3. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box, and then try again to access Windows Update from the Tools menu.
