Images that are included in messages are not printed in Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2002

SYMPTOMS

When you print a message that contains a graphic image, a small "x" is printed instead of the image.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you are using one of the following product combinations:
  • Outlook 2000 (any build number earlier than 9.0.0.5414)

    -and-

    Microsoft Internet Explorer (any version other than 5.5 Service Pack 2) -or-

  • Outlook 2002

    -and-

    Internet Explorer (any version other than 5.5 Service Pack 2)

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem use one of the following product combinations:
  • Outlook 2000 (build number 9.0.0.5414 or earlier)

    -and-

    Internet Explorer (latest version)

    The build number that is listed in this workaround section is installed by the update that is mentioned in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
    235309  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/235309/EN-US/ ) Outlook E-mail Attachment Security Update
    -or-

  • Outlook 2002 (any version)

    -and-

    Internet Explorer (latest version)
NOTE: If you have Internet Explorer 6.0 and you are not using Microsoft Windows XP, you can remove Internet Explorer 6.0 to revert back to Internet Explorer 5.5.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
