"Stop 0x00000050" Error Message When USB Device Is Connected

SYMPTOMS

If you connect a Universal Serial Bus (USB) device to the USB port, your computer may stop responding (hang) with the following error message:

STOP 0x00000050

CAUSE

This problem is caused by an invalid response from the USB device during initialization.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
