Delay Write Operation May Not Work After You Eject Removable Media
Article ID: 298964 - View products that this article applies to.
This article was previously published under Q298964
When you eject removable media (such as from a magneto-optical [MO] drive), you may receive the following error message:
The Delay Write operation failed.
If you eject the removable media by using the eject button after you access a file on that drive, Windows may try to update the last access date information on the drive even though there is no media in the drive. This causes the error message to appear. Even if the message appears, the data in the file is not collapsed, but the last access date information is not updated.
To prevent this issue from occurring, do no eject removable media shortly after accessing a file on the drive.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
