SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your computer from Microsoft Windows 98 to Windows 2000, the computer may stop responding (hang).

This behavior may occur on an IBM Aptiva 2174-574 computer that has an AMD Athlon 500 megahertz (MHz) CPU and an S3 Graphics Savage4 video adapter.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the S3 Graphics Savage4 video device driver that is included with Windows 98 is not compatible with Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, obtain an updated video device driver from S3 Graphics, Inc.
