The System Clock Slows If You Run a Program That Uses Sound Extensively

SYMPTOMS

You may experience any of the following symptoms:
  • The system clock on the taskbar shows an incorrect time.
  • Overall performance slows down.
  • The mouse pointer "freezes" or moves erratically.
  • Programs seem slow and unresponsive.
  • In the Date/Time tool in Control Panel, the second hand takes several seconds to advance to the next second.

CAUSE

These symptoms may occur if you run a program that plays audio in a loop, or that makes many successive calls to play audio.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, avoid playing audio repeatedly or in tight loops.
