FP2000: Error Message When You Run ASP Page

SYMPTOMS

When you run an Active Server Pages (ASP) Web page, you may receive the following error message:
error 'ASP 0115'

Unexpected error

/web name/asp file name.asp

A trappable error occurred in an external object. The script cannot continue running.
This error may occur intermittently.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when you use Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.1 or 2.50.4403.0.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, update Windows to MDAC 2.5 SP2, and then install the latest version of Windows Script that contains Visual Basic Script Edition (VBScript). To do this, follow these steps.

Install MDAC 2.5 SP2

Follow the method for your operating system.

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

Download and install Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.5 SP2. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=46d81374-79d7-466e-a110-5b2fb9da20f6&DisplayLang=en (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=46d81374-79d7-466e-a110-5b2fb9da20f6&DisplayLang=en)
  2. Under Select Install Option, click MDAC 2.5 SP2 (2.52.6019.2) for x86 - English, and then click Go to Download.
  3. In the File Download dialog box, click Save this program to disk, and then click OK.
  4. In the Save As dialog box, select Desktop in the Save in box, and then click Save.

    Note: The file name listed should be Mdac_typ.exe.
  5. When the download process is complete, click Close, and then disconnect from the Internet.
  6. Quit all programs that are running in the background. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, and then click Task Manager.
    2. For each program that must be closed, click the program, and then click End Task.
    3. Repeat step b until you have quit all unnecessary tasks.
    4. Quit Windows NT Task Manager.
  7. On the desktop, double-click Mdac_typ.exe, and then follow the instructions.
  8. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

Microsoft Windows 2000

Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) contains the latest version of MDAC. To download and install Service Pack 2, visit the following Microsoft Web site, and then follow the instructions for the download:

Install Windows Script

  1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=01592C48-207D-4BE1-8A76-1C4099D7BBB9&displaylang=en (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=01592C48-207D-4BE1-8A76-1C4099D7BBB9&displaylang=en)
  2. Do one of the following:
    • For Windows 2000, click the Scripten.exe link.
    • For Windows NT 4.0, click the Scr55en.exe link.
  3. In the File Download dialog box, click Save.
  4. In the Save As dialog box, click Desktop in the Save in box, and then click
    Save
    .

    Note: The file name should be Scripten.exe for Windows 2000 and Scr55en.exe for Windows NT 4.0.
  5. When the download process is complete, click Close, and then quit Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  6. On the desktop, double-click the downloaded file, and then follow the instructions to install Windows Script version 5.5.
  7. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
