Your Computer May Stop Responding When You Shut Down and Use Only the 802.1x Protocol for User Authentication

When you shut down your Windows XP Professional-based computer, the computer may stop responding (hang) when processing the shutdown scripts. Typically, you computer may hang for ten minutes, the default time-out period for shutdown scripts.
This behavior can occur when you use the 802.1x protocol that is configured only for user authentication because the network connection that uses the 802.1x protocol stops after the user logs off. Shutdown scripts run after the user logs off and, if the connection is no longer available, the script does not run because the script is on a network share. This behavior does not occur if machine authentication is used in conjunction with user authentication.
