Windows Explorer May Stop Responding When You Close a Window

SYMPTOMS

When you close a Windows Explorer window, Windows Explorer may stop responding (hang). This problem may occur if all of the following conditions exist:
  • You use the Korean Global Input Method Editor (IME) tool for Microsoft Office XP.
  • You set the Korean Global IME to be the default input language.
  • You have the Language bar floating on the desktop.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, minimize the Language bar. This may reduce the frequency with which the problem occurs.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows XP Service Pack 1.
