SYMPTOMS

If you are performing an unattended installation of Windows XP, the SyncDomainWithMemberShip option does not work.

You can use the SyncDomainWithMembership option to control the settings for a new or upgraded computer's primary DNS suffix. The SyncDomainWithMembership option is described in the unattended Setup documentation for Windows XP.

If this setting is not present, or if it is not a zero setting, the primary DNS suffix value is changed when the computer joins an Active Directory-based (Microsoft Windows 2000-based) domain. The name is the DNS name of the Active Directory-based domain that is joined by the computer.

To specify a primary DNS suffix that is different from that of the domain that the computer will join, set the SyncDomainWithMembership option to 0. Set the DNSDomain option to primary_DNS_suffix.
