The options to prevent addition of an Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or Other Server Types accounts are not available in Outlook

By default, the options to prevent the addition of a Microsoft Exchange Server, Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3), Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), and Other Server Types accounts in a profile are not available in Microsoft Outlook 2002, in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, or in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: Note This fix is only for Outlook 2002. To resolve this issue for Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007, you must add a registry key.

The English-language version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later versions of the file attributes:
After you apply the fix to Outlook 2002, you must add registry keys to the registry to activate the fix. Additionally, you must add the same registry key to resolve this issue for Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007. To do this, follow these steps.

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Locate and then click the following registry key, as appropriate for your version of Outlook:
   Outlook 2007

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Options

   Outlook 2003

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options

   Outlook 2002

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Options
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, click DWORD value, and then add one or more of the following registry values:
   Value name: DisablePOP3
   Data type: DWORD
   Value data: 1
   
   Value name: DisableIMAP
   Data type: DWORD
   Value data: 1
   
   Value name: DisableExchange
   Data type: DWORD
   Value data: 1
   
   Value name: DisableOtherTypes
   Data type: DWORD
   Value data: 1
   
4. Exit Registry Editor.
5. Start Outlook.

If you are updating an administrative installation with the administration version of this fix, use the following information to update the administrative installation and network clients.

How to update administrative installations

To update an administrative installation use a command line similar to the following where Admin Path is the path to your administrative installation point for Microsoft Office XP (for example, C:\OfficeXP),

where MSI File is the MSI database package for the Office XP product (for example, ProPlus.msi), and

where MSP path is the path to the administrative update for the fix (for example, c:\hotfixfiles\Outlook_admin.msp).

How to update network clients

After you complete the administrative installation of the fix, update each network client. To deploy the update to the client workstations, use a command line similar to the following command line: In this command line, Admin Path is the path to your administrative installation point for Office XP (for example, C:\OfficeXP). MSI File is the MSI database package for the Office XP product (for example, ProPlus.msi).

You can use the Prevent users from making changes to Outlook profiles policy option to workaround this problem. This policy prevents users from making any changes to their existing profile.

1. Expand the Outlook version year node.
2. Expand the Miscellaneous node.
3. Click to select the Prevent users from making changes to Outlook profiles check box.
4. Click to select the Check to enforce setting on; uncheck to enforce setting off check box.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2.

You can turn off (disable) Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) accounts that exists in Outlook 2002 with or without this fix installed on the Outlook client. To disable HTTP accounts in the registry, follow these steps:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Locate and then locate the following key in the registry, as appropriate for your version of Outlook:
   Outlook 2007

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Options

   Outlook 2003

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options

   Outlook 2002

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Options
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, click DWORD Value, and then add the following registry value:
   Value name: DisableHTTP
   Data type: DWORD
   Value data: 1
4. Exit Registry Editor.
5. Start Outlook 2002.
