Cannot Install Sound Blaster Audigy Drivers While the Creative Taskbar Is Running

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Creative Technology Sound Blaster Audigy drivers, you may receive the following error message:
ctltask.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If the error message is still displayed and you want to see the data that the error report contains, click the click here link at the bottom of the message box. You then see error signature information that may be similar to the following:
   App name     App version  Module name  Module version  Offset
   ---------------------------------------------------------------
   ctltask.exe  1.0.0.28     mfc42.dll    6.0.8665.0      000d1c6a 
				

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you try to install Creative Technology Sound Blaster Audigy drivers while the Creative Taskbar is running.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue:
  1. Click the Creative button on the Creative Taskbar, and then click Exit.
  2. After the Creative Taskbar tool quits, install the Sound Blaster Audigy drivers.
