Multimedia Programs May Not Work After You Install Windows XP SP1

If your computer uses the Yamaha AC-XG sound card driver, some multimedia programs may not work correctly after you install Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1). For example:

• The Sony GigaPocket program may stop responding (hang) when you start it.
• When you run Microsoft Windows Movie Maker, you may receive the following error message:
  Windows Movie Maker has deterimined that your computer does not contain audio hardware which is necessary for this application to work.
• When you start Microsoft Windows Media Player, you may receive the following error message:
  Cannot play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding.
  If you click Details, you see the following information:
  There is no sound card.
  
  Error ID = 0x80040256, Remedy ID = 0x00000000

Because of compatibility issues, Windows XP SP1 disables some versions of the Yamaha AC-XG sound card driver.

To resolve this problem, update the sound card driver to a compatible version. To locate updated drivers, visit Windows Update or contact your computer manufacturer for updated drivers.
