SYMPTOMS

When you try to log on to a remote server by using a remote access client, the time that it takes to log on to the remote access server becomes longer with each logon attempt. Restarting the client does not shorten the time.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.

MORE INFORMATION

The dialer program may use the RasSetEntryProperties function, set the credentials on that entry, obtain the credentials by using the RasGetCredentials function, and then delete the entry. If this occurs in a tight loop, the delay in obtaining the credentials continues to grow. The dialer program may have been created by using the Connection Manager Administration Kit (CMAK), or by using other proprietary dialers that are designed for Microsoft Windows by third-party developers
