Windows Server 2003 Adminpak.msi Does Not Run on a Windows XP-Based Computer Without Service Pack 1

SYMPTOMS

You cannot run the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack (Adminpak.msi) on a computer that is running Windows XP without Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1).

Note that Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition includes SP1.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the version of the Dsprop.dll file that is included with Windows XP has been updated. The Dsprop.dll file is included with Windows XP, but it has been changed in Windows Server 2003. Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Administration Tools must use the newer version of Dsprop.dll to run correctly. You cannot install the Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack (Adminpak.msi) on a computer that is running Windows XP if you have not applied SP1.

The English version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows XP Service Pack 1.
