On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you deploy a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 image, a
Microsoft Windows XP image, or a Microsoft Windows 2000 image from a Windows
Server 2003-based Remote Installation Services (RIS) server or from a Windows
2000-based RIS server, the installation may fail during the text-mode part of
Setup. You receive the following error message: The operating system image you selected does not contain the necessary drivers for your network adapter. Try selecting a different operating system image. If the problem persists, contact your administrator. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.
CAUSEThis problem may occur in situations when RIS does not
recognize the syntax of the [Manufacturer] section of the .inf
file for the network adapter driver. Therefore, Setup cannot locate the network
driver. RESOLUTIONWindows Server 2003 hotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.
