SYMPTOMS

If you press SHIFT to override the automatic logon setting during Windows XP startup on a computer that has the
AutoAdminLogon
registry value turned on, the Security Attention Sequence (SAS) dialog box may not appear as expected.

Note SAS is designed to permit users to enter their own account credentials and therefore to override the automatic logon setting that is configured in the computer's registry.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
