SYMPTOMS

When you use the following functions to remove a resource from an application binary file on Microsoft Windows XP or on Microsoft Windows 2000, the binary file may become corrupted:
  • BeginUpdateResource
  • UpdateResource
  • EndUpdateResource

RESOLUTION

Windows XP service pack information

Windows XP hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
