You cannot use Legato NetWorker to back up a remote computer that is running Windows XP Service Pack 2

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use Legato NetWorker to back up a Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer from a remote computer, scheduled backups may not occur as expected.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if Windows Firewall is enabled on the Windows XP SP2-based computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, configure an exception to Windows Firewall in Group Policy. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
  2. In the left pane, expand Computer Configuration under Local Computer Policy. Expand Administrative Templates, expand Network, expand Network Connections, and then expand Windows Firewall.
  3. In the left pane, click Domain Profile, and then double-click Windows Firewall: Define program exceptions in the right pane.
  4. Click Enabled, and then click Show.
  5. Click Add, and then type the following:
    path:scope:status:name
    Note In this user input, path is the path of the NetWorker program. Scope is a list of the network addresses that can communicate through the firewall; this includes * for all networks. Status indicates an enabled or disabled status. And name is the name of the exception.
  6. Click OK, and then click OK again.
