Note Windows XP SP2 features and components are included in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.

Cause

This issue occurs when you try to install Paint Shop Pro on a computer or on a Tablet PC whose processor has the no-execute (NX) page-protection feature enabled. DEP prevents the installation of the software.

Workaround

Instead of using the Autorun.exe program that starts when you insert the CD-ROM in the CD drive, use the Setup program to install Paint Shop Pro:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type the following in the Open dialog box, and then click OK:
    drive:\psp\setup.exe
Note In this command, drive is the letter of the drive for the installation CD-ROM.
  2. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the installation.

More information

Hardware data execution prevention (DEP) is a processor feature that is supported by Windows XP SP2. DEP prevents the execution of code in memory regions that are marked as data storage.

Processors that support no-execute functionality

Following are the only currently available x86 processors that support no-execute functionality:
  • AMD 32/64-bit Opteron
  • AMD Athlon64
Intel has 64-bit Itanium processors that already support DEP. These processors use IA-64 architecture.
