When you try to insert a picture in a document in Word X for Mac or in Word 2004 for Mac, an empty box is inserted instead

When you try to insert a picture in a document in Microsoft Word X for Mac or in Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, the picture does not appear. Instead, an empty box appears at the insertion point in the text.

This behavior occurs when the Image Placeholders check box is selected in the Word Preferences dialog box.

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:

1. On the Word menu, click Preferences, and then click View.
2. Click to clear the Image Placeholders check box, and then click OK.
