SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005, when you use the Application Log Provider to parse an Internet Information Services (IIS) log file that contains Asian characters, the provider may unexpectedly quit. For example, this problem may occur if the log file contains one or more of the following characters:
  • Japanese characters
  • Korean characters
  • Simplified Chinese characters
  • Traditional Chinese characters
When this problem occurs, the following event is logged in the Application log:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Microsoft Operations Manager
Event Category: MOM Agent
Event ID: 25257
Description: The Application Log Provider has encountered an unrecoverable error.
Source: Internet Information web server log
Description: IIS Application Log – Web Server

For example, assume that you install a MOM agent on a computer that hosts a Korean server that is running IIS. When you try to install an IIS management pack on this computer, the event may be logged every time the Application Log Provider tries to parse the IIS log.
