SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 or in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, you can open a .vb file by using the devenv command at a command prompt. When you do this, Upgrade Visual Basic 6 Code may be missing on the Tools menu.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods:
  • Create a new Microsoft Visual Basic project for the .vb file. Then, open the project in Visual Studio 2005 or in Visual Studio .NET 2003.
  • Open the solution file or the project file by using the devenv command at a command prompt instead of opening the .vb file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
