You may receive a Stop error message on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003: "STOP: 0x00000111"

On rare occasions, you may receive a Stop error message that resembles the following on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003: Alternatively, the computer may stop responding (hang) in this situation. This problem may occur under one of the following circumstances:

• You start the computer or shut down the computer.
• You put the computer into hibernation.
• You enable or disable a device in Device Manager.

This problem may occur if the computer is using an NVidia CK-804 bridge chipset. Specifically, this problem may occur when a PCI-E device that uses the NVidia CK-804 bridge chipset enters a D3 Hot state.

Note The PCI 1.2 State Transition Recovery Time Requirement specification defines the D0 state, the D1 state, the D2 state, the D3 Hot state, and the D3 Cold state. The D0 specification means that the device is fully powered up. The D3 Cold specification means that the power supply for a device is turned off. The D3 Hot specification means that the device is still receiving minimal power.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To work around this problem if you are using a controller that is manufactured by IDT, SWKS, Emulex, or Qlogic, you may be able to edit the registry to disable D3Hot for the specific controller.

1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit.exe in the Programs list.
2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PCI\Parameters
3. Update the respective registry entry for your controller with the values in the following table:
