On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen a volume is dismounted on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based computer, you receive an error message that resembles the following: STOP 0x00000082 (0xf7189b13, 0xf7184221, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) CAUSEThis problem occurs because of an issue in the Filesystem Filter Manager driver. When a volume is dismounted, the device object that is associated with the volume is not deleted if that device object is still referenced. In this situation, the Filesystem Filter Manager driver should reject the IRP_MJ_CREATE request. However, in a particular path in which no minifilter is loaded, an error occurs in the Filesystem Filter Manager driver. This error prevents the IRP_MJ_CREATE request from failing. In this scenario, a "STOP 0x00000082" error is generated. RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article.
