Error message when you upgrade the SoftGrid Virtual Application Server: "The installation program encountered an error"

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade the SoftGrid Virtual Application Server, the upgrade is not completed successfully. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
The installation program encountered an error attempting to execute a database statement. Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'package_id', table 'SOFTRICITY.dbo.APPLICATIONS'; column does not allow nulls. UPDATE fails.

CAUSE

This issue may occur when you upgrade version 3.x of the server to version 4.x, and when the server already contains version 4.x sequences.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use the SoftGrid Management Console to remove the version 4.x sequences. Then, perform the upgrade.

After the upgrade process is complete, use the SoftGrid Management Console to re-add the sequences.
