SYMPTOMS

In SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio, you open a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services database. A dimension in the database contains a parent/child hierarchy. You specify a unary operator column for the parent attribute. You change, add, or delete a user hierarchy in the dimension. When you try to save the changes, you receive the following error message:
Dimension 'DimensionName' cannot be saved because of the following errors: Internal error: An unexpected exception occured.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the dimension, and then click Process.
  2. If you receive the following message, click No:
There are unsaved changes. Would you like to save all changes first?
  3. In the Process Dimension dialog box, click Unprocess in the Process Options column, and then click Run.
  4. Right-click the dimension, and then click Process.
  5. Click Yes if you receive the message that is mentioned in step 2.
  6. In the Process Dimension dialog box, click Process Full in the Process Options column, and then click Run.
  7. Fully process other objects that use the dimension.
