INTRODUCTIONThis article describes an update that resolves certain application compatibility issues and reliability issues in Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2). These issues may occur on a Windows Vista-based computer after you install security update 936181. This security update is announced in security bulletin MS07-042.

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1Use Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) 6.0 instead of MSXML 4.0.
Method 2Modify the client application to release all the instances of objects that are created. Do this before the client application unloads the Msxml4.dll file.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
