INTRODUCTION

Microsoft has released a service pack for Microsoft Expression Media. This article contains information about how to obtain Microsoft Expression Media Service Pack 1 (SP1) and about how to obtain a list of issues that are fixed by the service pack. Additionally, this article contains information about how to determine whether the service pack is installed.

Expression Media SP1 provides the latest updates to Microsoft Expression Media. Some fixes that are included with this service pack may have been previously released as separate updates. This service pack combines them into one update.

Expression Media SP1 has no earlier released software updates.

New and updated features

Expression Media SP1 for Microsoft Windows now supports the following:
  • The Nikon camera model D40X.
  • Expression Media updates. Expression Media updates can be automatically detected and downloaded by using Microsoft Update.
  • The Sony A100 (.arw) RAW file format. The .arw files now appear in the Thumbnail and Media views in Expression Media on Windows Vista-based computers. Expression Media on Windows Vista-based computers requires the Sony RAW driver.

  • HDPhoto format HD. HDPhoto form HD is a new still image compression algorithm and file format for continuous tone photographic images. HDPhoto format HD was developed by Microsoft as a part of the Windows Media family. HDPhoto format HD supports lossy and lossless compression. Additionally, it is the preferred image format for Microsoft XPS documents.

    The following list contains file information for HDPhoto format HD:
    • The following are the HDPhoto format HD file name extensions:
      • .hdp
      • .wdp
    • The following is the MIME type:
      image/vnd.ms-photo
    Expression Media SP1 on Microsoft Windows XP-based computers requires the Windows Imaging Component (WIC) to display HDPhoto format HD files.

Expression Media SP1 for Macintosh now supports the following:

Additionally, a new Check for updates feature was added on the Organize Panel in Expression Media.

Removal information

You cannot use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel to remove this download. To remove Expression Media SP1 from the computer, you must remove Expression Media. Then, reinstall Expression Media from the original Expression Media CD-ROM.

How to determine whether the service pack is installed

To determine whether Expression Media SP1 is installed, follow these steps.

Expression Media for Windows

In Expression Media, click Help, and then click About Microsoft Expression Media.
  • If Expression Media SP1 is not installed, one of the following version numbers appears:
    • Microsoft Expression Media Version 1.0.8076.0
    • Microsoft Expression Media Version 1.0.8104.0
  • If Expression Media SP1 is already installed, the following version number appears:
    Microsoft Expression Media Service Pack 1 Version 1.0.9038.0
Expression Media for Macintosh

In Expression Media, click Help, and then click About Microsoft Expression Media.
  • If Expression Media SP1 is not installed, one of the following version numbers appears:
    • Microsoft Expression Media Version: 1.0.8076.0
    • Microsoft Expression Media Version: 1.0.8103.0
  • If Expression Media SP1 is already installed, the following version number appears:
    Microsoft Expression Media Service Pack 1 Version: 1.0.2 (9038)
