SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Windows Server 2008, you install the Windows Server Backup feature. However, the Windows Server Backup feature is not listed when you expand Storage in Server Manager.

You can still use the Wbadmin.exe command-line tool to manage server backups. However, you cannot manage server backups in Server Manager.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) cache is not immediately refreshed after you start Server Manager.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, exit Server Manager, and then start Server Manager again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

After you restart Server Manager, the MMC cache is rebuilt. Therefore, Server Manager correctly installs the Windows Server Backup feature.
