Windows Explorer crashes when you try to use a shortcut to open a file that is located in a WebDAV folder

SYMPTOMS

You have a computer that has the 2007 Microsoft Office system or the update in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 907306 installed. You create a shortcut (.lnk) to a file that is located in a Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) folder. When you try to open the file by using the shortcut, Windows Explorer (Explorer.exe) crashes.

Note If the shortcut is located on the desktop, Windows Explorer crashes immediately after you log on to the computer. Therefore, you must use a command prompt to delete the .lnk shortcut.

RESOLUTION
