SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

In a Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 environment, you try to change an alert property in an alerts view.
In this alerts view, alerts are displayed from multiple connected management group tiers.
The Show Connected Alerts option is enabled.

In this scenario, the System Center Operations Manager 2007 console crashes, and a NullReferenceException exception is generated.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when one or more tiers in a connected management group scenario have different alert resolution states configured.

To resolve this problem, restart the console, and then change the alerts that have a numeric resolution state to a correct resolution state for that tier. To do this, select the alerts for that tier, right-click the shortcut menu, and then click Set Resolution State.

Note When you select multiple alerts for different tiers, you cannot right-click the Set Resolution State shortcut menu.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:

Use the same alert resolution states and IDs across all connected management groups.
Make console operators aware of the issue, and do not use the Alert Status combo box when you select multiple alerts for connected management groups.
