SYMPTOMS

A computer that is running Windows XP restarts unexpectedly when an application calls the NtGdiRectInRegion function. Additionally, you receive the following Stop error message:

Stop 0x00000050 (parameter1, 00000000, parameter3, 00000000)
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
For example, this error may occur when you try to start a Microsoft Office application in a terminal services session. The Windows XP-based remote desktop restarts unexpectedly. Note
  • The parameters in this Stop error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.
  • Not all "0x00000050" Stop error messages are caused by this problem.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the NtGdiRectInRegion function checks the wall beyond the boundary.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problemP1 that P2 described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problemP1 described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
